Dear Neighbor:
Chantel’s grandmother knows the most important contribution Teach My
People, an “at risk” after school program, makes to the welfare of the
children five days a week. She comments, “It took a great burden off
my mind to know that my grandchildren come home in the evening with a
stomach full of food. Chantel’s homework is complete; she has had a
hot, nutritious dinner and can go to sleep knowing she is prepared for
school the following day”. When asked, many other parents and
guardians felt the same way, appreciative that there are people in our
community who care for the wellbeing of their children.
It’s so hard to believe that we still have under nourished and even
hungry youth right here in the middle of our community. Based on a
2005 survey by the United States Department of Agriculture, over 6% of
households in South Carolina have “very low food security”. That means
these families were unable to sustain normal eating patterns. This
percentage is the highest in the nation – well above the U.S. average
of 3.8%.
The Outreach Farm helps improve these statistics in our community by
providing nourishing beef and vegetables for free to non-profit
organizations like Teach My People. The Farm is already providing over
42,000 meals each year but so much more needs to be done.
Improving the lives of the hungry in our community is a shared,
ongoing responsibility and we believe you would like to be a part of
the solution. With your help, we can make a real difference in the
lives and health of these people.
A gift of any amount will be deeply appreciated. Please return your
contribution in the enclosed envelope.
Sincerely,
Robert Sizemore
